Laser Hair Removal

Not all hair grow at the same time. Those in the growth phase are the ones we can see and the ones affected by the laser. The other hairs are ’dormant’ and can take 3 to 8 weeks to show. Only then can the laser remove these as well. This is why the laser depilation is repeated every 6 weeks (around 4 to 6 times) on the average, to remove all hairs.

Hair does not to be specially grown for the procedure, however we should stop removing them mechanically prior to the treatment (1 month on the face and 1,2–2 months for the torso and hands and legs). This means one should not use waxing, tweezers or a mechanical depilator. Hair can be shaved off or removed with the use of creams and foams.

The respective surface needs to be thoroughly cleansed of all cosmetics or deodorant. Hair should be shaved off and. If the hair is thick it should be done very precisely because the hair on the surface will attract the laser, will heat up and may cause blisters. The skin should not be tanned at least one week before the procedure and no tanning creams or balms should be applied for 1 to 2 weeks. Retinoid mouth therapy will require a six month break between its end and the procedure.

Thanks to effective cooling technologies the procedure is practically painless. One can feel a slight prick or burning when the laser is turned on. The sensations depend on individual sensitivity, hair removal area and the color and thickness of the hair.

Immediately after the procedure the skin is slightly reddened but this disappears 2 to 3 hours after. There can also be follicle swelling in the places the hair grow. After appropriate cooling of the skin, an anti-inflammatory ointment may be applied. The affected areas should be protected from damage for 2 to 3 days after the procedure. SPF50+ and SPF30 creams should be applied for at least a week after the procedure to protect the skin from sun rays. With face depilation make up should not be applied right after to avoid irritation. The make up can be applied with no worries the next day.

The damaged hair remain in the skin and will move towards its surface which may look as if they were still growing. If they are hard or scratchy they can be saved off. After up to two weeks, however, they will all leave the skin.

– Dermatological skin disease like photodermatosis or skin prone to discolorations
– Hypersensitivity to whitening substances
– Autoimmune diseases like lupus, scleroderma, albinism or psoriasis
– An infection in the area of procedure
– Mental diseases
– Disease of the nervous system

Additional contraindications for the face procedures:
– Treatments done using synthetic fillers (i.a. silicone) in the area of procedure
– Treatments done with natural fillers at least two weeks prior
– Injections with the botulinum toxin at least two weeks prior
– Chemical peeling done at least two weeks prior
– Deep chemical peeling / laser dermabrasion done at least three months prior
